Feeling Off? DHEA-S May Be One Piece of the Puzzle

Fatigue. Low energy. Low libido. Acne. Unwanted hair growth. Hair thinning. Menstrual changes.

These symptoms can have many causes, but they’re also reasons a provider may consider evaluating DHEA-S as part of a broader hormone workup. DHEA-S gives us information about androgen production from the adrenal glands and may be especially useful when evaluating PCOS or signs of androgen excess.

Both high and low DHEA-S levels need context. Elevated levels can occur with increased adrenal androgen production, PCOS, or DHEA supplementation, while lower levels may occur with adrenal or pituitary dysfunction, chronic illness, corticosteroid use, or simply as part of the natural age-related decline.

That’s why we don’t chase one lab number, or automatically recommend DHEA because a level looks low.

At Youthful You Aesthetics and Wellness, we connect your symptoms with your labs and overall hormonal pattern to determine where support actually makes sense.
